Common questions

A link shows as broken but opens fine

Please tell us the link — that’s exactly the kind of bug we want to hear about. Meanwhile, “Check Again” after a minute often helps: some sites respond differently under load.

What does “Couldn’t verify” mean?

The site refused the automated check — a 403, 429 or 999, an unusual 4xx code from a bot filter, or a dropped connection while the same site serves its other links — or it responded too slowly after retries. Open the link to confirm it works. More about 403 and 999

Why does Chrome ask for access to all sites?

Links on a page can point anywhere, and each one has to be requested to be checked. Chrome asks the first time you check, not at install. Without access the extension can’t check links.

It says it can’t check this page

Chrome doesn’t allow extensions on its own pages (chrome://), the Chrome Web Store and the built-in PDF viewer. Open a regular web page.

Limits

Up to 2,000 links on a single page. Whole-site scans: up to 500 pages and 20,000 links.

The whole-site scan found only one page

The site may have no sitemap and build its links with JavaScript. Check pages one by one, or tell us the site and we’ll look into it.

How do I turn off the anonymous counts?

Open the extension, click the gear icon, switch off “Share anonymous usage counts”.
